We have to "wake up" in Europe - Despite their sanctions, the US imports Russian oil at 74.9 dollars a barrel

It is really unheard of, cruel and above all incomprehensible that Europe is suffering from an energy crisis, buying gas and oil at very high prices compared to before 2022, and the US (which has imposed tough sanctions) is buying Russian oil.

The revelation was made by the Turkish newspaper turkiye, in which the Erdogan regime basically congratulates each other on the policy of friendship and trade relations with Moscow, at the same time that Europeans are being royal on the US sanctions.

What the Turkish revelation says about the US

In November 2023, the US imported oil from Russia for the first time since April 2022.
Despite the sanctions, the US imports Russian oil at $74.9 per barrel.

According to US Foreign Trade Commission data, Washington bought 10,000 barrels of oil from Russia in November 2023 for $749,000; notably, the imports were made at $74.9 a barrel.

However, the US is known to have imposed sanctions on Russia's entire energy sector due to the war in Ukraine and has officially cut off oil imports from that country from April 2022.

The G-7 countries had also introduced a ceiling price of $60 per barrel for Russian oil in December 2022.

The recent purchase of Russian oil by the US, which exceeds the price ceiling set by the G-7, marks a remarkable development in the complex dynamics of international energy trade.

What is going on at the moment in the energy sector between the US and Russia is not known, but the great powers always have a way of finding a solution between them.

The war in Ukraine is ending and everything will change

After the White House's announcement to cut off financial aid to Ukraine, Kiev is at its most critical point, and Moscow completely controls the flows of oil, gas, grain and other goods, having become richer since the beginning of the war.

Europe, including Greece, is under great pressure on the energy issue, and that is why we import so much electricity at 70-80% ( since we closed down the lignite plants), burdening the Greek consumer with exorbitant amounts at a time of global price pressures.

With the end of the war in Ukraine ( after the American withdrawal) now being a foregone conclusion, Greece should review its 'frozen' relations with Russia and seek cheap natural gas as soon as possible.

A huge country like Russia cannot be ignored, and that is why the EU should also review its policy and find points of convergence with Moscow, for the sake of its citizens.

Sanctions on Russia also on fruit and vegetables, eggs, and other Greek products should be 'relaxed' in order to open up this large market for Greek traders.

The interest of our country is the only thing we should be concerned about and no right side of the story, especially at a time when Greek consumers are suffering from the wild wave of price pressures sweeping the Greek market.
