Russians and Ukrainians take up battle positions

In more detail and based on new reports from the Russian defense site SvPressa, assault regiments of the Russian troop group Center have managed to advance to the area of the village of Makivka (Lugansk People's Republic). It is reported on Russian Telegram channels that the contact line has moved to the west.

An area 2 km wide and of the same depth has passed into the control of Russian soldiers. At the same time, it is said that territorial successes were also achieved in the forested area of Sherebriansky, where Moscow's fighters managed to drive the Ukrainians from their positions.

Western observers, including the US Institute for the Study of War (ISW), in their analysis for 15 January, highlighted on the map of the region territorial changes confirming that the Russian armed forces have captured new territories.

We are talking specifically about the area around the settlement of Makivka, where they specifically stated that 'east of the village, Russian troops advanced south to an area 2.2 kilometres wide and 1.7 kilometres deep'.

At the same time, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces stressed in its operational report that the Russian forces carried out 12 attacks in the direction of the port, namely near Ternof, Yabolovka and Torskoye, but remained silent about the action of the Moscow army in the Makivka region.

It seems that even Ukrainian media and internet accounts admit that the situation for the Kiev army has taken an unexpectedly bad turn in the Makivka region. The Russian armed forces have a huge advantage in manpower and equipment in this sector of the front, since many forces have arrived in the region in recent days to prepare the ground for the upcoming siege of Kharkiv, which more and more Russian military analysts are predicting.

The Russians are pounding Makivka and the region with everything they have. In particular, they seem to regularly send their aircraft to hit Ukrainian targets. Russian tanks and helicopters are covering Russian aircraft from the ground (low flying helicopters).
According to SvPressa, developments in this area indicate that the Russian military will soon increase its activity in the Kupiansk region as well.
