The ODAB-500 bombs are ready! The Russians trapped the Ukrainians in the Avdiivka factory and now they will bomb them as in the Azovstal steelworks

The Russian military continues to actively conduct offensive operations in southeastern Ukraine using air assets and armoured vehicles. This was announced by Tarnawski, commander of the operational group of Ukrainian troops Tavria.

According to him, the most difficult situation is unfolding in the directions of Avdiivka and Mariinka. During 14 January the Russians carried out 41 air strikes and 51 attacks with the support of armoured vehicles. This is the daily average of attacks and air strikes for a week now. Especially in the last 3 days the activity of the Russian air force has increased sharply.

Ukrainian media reports that in 2024 Russian aircraft dropped a total of 240 aerial bombs on Avdiivka. To compare all of 2024, 146 bombs were dropped on the city. Russian pilots only deploy bombs with conversion kits so that the weapons demonstrate greater range and the aircraft carrying them do not need to fly within range of Ukrainian air defense systems.

A Terrifying Scenario of the Bombing of the City

According to the Russian defence website SvPressa, the main units of the Ukrainian armed forces defending Avdiivka are currently located at the city's Avdiivka Coke Plant (AKHZ). The goal of the Russian forces is to cut these forces off from the "hinterland".

Once they have done this it is said that an unprecedented Russian bombardment will begin, similar to the one the Russians carried out on the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol in the early months of the war.

"The present 250 FAB bombs lined up at Avdiivka will look like 'flowers' compared to what is to be done," the Russian site stressed.

It seems that the Russian plan has made some progress, as yesterday and the day before yesterday Russian troops were reported to have advanced to an area 260 meters wide and 120 meters deep east of the Avdiivka factory (which is located northwest of the city), while other Russian units managed to get closer to Avdiivka from the southeast.

As for the bombing, rumours that came to the attention of the SvPressa columnist indicate that the Russian ODAB-500 aerial bombs, described as "one of the most powerful non-nuclear weapons in service with the Russian aerospace forces", will be used.

It was said that some such bombs have already been seen in the Russian-Ukrainian war zone, which if true suggests that the Russian military may indeed be considering deploying them in Avdiivka.
