Greek-Turkish Relations

The relationship between Britain and Turkey creates deadly dangers for Greece and Cyprus-The huge contribution of Rolls-Royce

The fact is that after Brexit, the UK has redefined its foreign policy, since it is no longer bound by Brussels and the EU.

This gives it a great potential for flexibility and autonomous foreign policy making within the framework of NATO and its special relationship with the USA.

The win-win relationship between Britain and Turkey and the role of Rolls-Royce

In an article we wrote more than two years ago, we pointed out that Turkey needs the UK for the acquisition of high-tech and cutting-edge knowledge and military products, and that the UK can use Turkey as a "vehicle country" in order to re-establish itself on the global geopolitical chessboard, starting with the South-Eastern Mediterranean and especially Cyprus, where London maintains military bases.

Furthermore, we have stressed that the deepening of UK-Turkey relations is a danger for Hellenism, while we have pointed out that the engine for the 5th generation "Turkish" fighter Kaan, which will make its maiden flight tomorrow, is being developed by the Turkish Air Engine Company (TAEC), a partnership between the Kale Group, which holds 51% of the shares, and the British Rolls-Royce, which holds 49%.

According to Turkish media, recently, Rolls-Royce's Director of Turkey , Görkem Kiriş Gümüşel, said that Turkey is a very large and strategic market for the company.

Gümüşel, in a statement to the Anadolu correspondent, said the company has about 150 employees in Turkey.

Rolls-Royce's priority is to develop long-term cooperation with Turkey

Stating that all branches of Rolls-Royce are actively working in Turkey, Gümüşel said their priority is to develop long-term partnerships, saying:

"Turkey is a very large and strategically important market for Rolls-Royce. If I start with our activities in the civil aviation sector, I can give an example of our long-term partnership with Turkish Airlines (THY). THY is a fast-growing airline. Istanbul is a global aviation hub

As Rolls-Royce, we are supporting the growing need with our engines and adding power to the fleet. We have seriously increased our market share in a very short time with THY since 2009."

Within our latest agreement with THY, orders have already been placed for additional Rolls-Royce powered Airbus A350 aircraft. They will be included in the A350 and A330. With this order, THY becomes the airline with the largest A350 fleet in the world.

We are also increasing our market share of THY's wide-body aircraft from 33 percent to 55 percent."

Supply Turkey with small modular nuclear reactors SMR

Gümüşel said that they have existing knowledge and experience in the nuclear field and will proceed to transfer this knowledge to other projects.

Stating that they have made significant progress in the field of small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) for a sustainable future, Gümüşel said SMRs are a cost-effective and more manageable financing model than large nuclear power plants.

Finally, he said that we are continuing our negotiations with our Ministry and other relevant institutions and organizations regarding the installation of SMRs in Turkey.

We hope that these negotiations will have a positive outcome.

Cooperation in the defence sector

Noting that they have been present in Turkey's defense sector for more than 50 years, Gümüşel said:

"We supply the aircraft in the Turkish Armed Forces' inventory, including transport aircraft, training helicopters, ATAK helicopters, with about 450 engines"

Highlighting that the Power Systems business unit is one of the main suppliers in the Turkish market, Gümüşel said: "We meet the engine requirements of military naval and land-based platforms in Turkey and produce energy solutions for companies operating in different sectors."

Report

From the above it is clear that Turkey and ROLLS-ROYCE have developed their cooperative relationship to a significant degree, which is able to "underpin" the UK's pro-Agyra stance on a number of foreign policy issues such as the Cyprus problem, hydrocarbon exploitation and the delimitation of maritime zones in the SE Mediterranean.

In addition to this, Erdogan, through his cooperation with this company, has acquired a very important reinforcing arm to uncouple his country's defence industry from other Western countries , while at the same time taking off its capabilities, leading it to the production of highly advanced weapon systems-means and ammunition.
