Free US grant of Oshkosh M1070A1 tank carriers-How the Army's capabilities are affected (Video)

The US continues to invest in its Strategic Partnership with Greece, which has proven to be a staunch ally and a pillar of stability in the region, unlike the duplicitous Turkey, which is cozying up to US-NATO-EU enemies such as Russia and China.

Proof of the excellent relationship between Washington and Athens is the free concession or sale on very favorable terms for our country of reliable US weapon systems and military equipment, such as the OH-58d kiowa helicopters, the M1117 Guardian armored vehicles, the amphibious armored vehicles AAVP-7A1, with the Oshkosh M1070A1 (8x8) getting their turn today.

Specifically today, the competent Committee of the Hellenic Parliament accepted the acceptance of 60 Oshkosh M1070A1 (8x8) tank towing heads with an armored cabin, which are granted free of charge by the USA through EDA to support the Strategic Transport Group of the Greek Army.

Oshkosh M1070

The Oshkosh M1070 is a US tank transport unit (tank carrier). The primary purpose of this combination for the US military is to transport the M1 Abrams tank.

They come in A0, A1 and M1300 configurations. The M1070 is attached to a DRS Technologies M1000 semi-trailer. The M1300 is a US Army derivative specifically for Europe, designed to be legal within Europe and running on a different trailer.

They replaced the previous Oshkosh M911 tractor unit and the M747 semi-trailer.

The M1070 is also used to transport, deploy, and evacuate armored personnel carriers, self-propelled artillery, armored vehicles, and other heavy vehicles and equipment of all types.

How are the Army's operational capabilities affected?

The free concession by the USA of 60 Oshkosh M1070A1 (8x8) armored personnel carriers with an armored cabin significantly upgrades the Strategic Transport capabilities of the Greek Army, since it provides the possibility of immediate transport of the tanks of the Tank Command + Ilis on a route, if required, to support combatants forces.

In addition, it gives the possibility of transporting damaged tanks-TOMB-TOMA and other heavy vehicles from the front line to the Technical Corps echelons in the rear, for repair-restoration of the damages and their re-promotion to the front of combat operations.
