The ultimate Russian nuclear submarine that frightens China

It's easy to notice that the Soviet Union and Russian always had a high interest in military submarines. That happened mainly because of the position of Russia on the map, and also due to their fleet configuration. Take in mind that most of the Russian coasts are frozen and that submarines are multi-purpose boats, it's logical why they are important to them.

Today, the Russian Navy still develops some of the best submarines that ext. The latest Yasen class is one of them.

Specifications

Yasen submarines are also called Graney, and they are nuclear cruise missiles submarines that are produced by Sevmash. Malachite designed them, and they entered the production stage back in 1993. There are two active boats so far, and in total 10 are ordered. Graney are successors of the Oscar and Akula class and will eventually be replaced from class Laika. The first Yasen entered service in 2013 and the cost per unit is almost 712 million dollars.

The submarines have an overall displacement of 8,600t on the surface and 13,800t under it. There are two main versions: Project 885 Yasen and 885 Yasen-M. The second is 140m long and the second is 130m. The reactor is the OK-650M. They are maximum speeds are 20 knots on the surface, 28 under it and at silence mode, and 35 without the silence mode enabled. It can dive up to 450 meters, and it has a crash depth of 658m. Jason carries a crew of 85 while Yasem-M has 64 men.

The submarines are equipped with the radar Rim Hat ESM/ECM Snoop Pair Surface Search. The sonar is the MGK-600 Irtysh-Amfora and the four-generation reactors provide a stealth profile to the boat.

The class caries missiles for every threat: P-800 Oniks SLCM are hypersonic anti-ship cruise missiles, Kalibr missiles like the 3M51 anti-ship, the 3M54K hypersonic, the 3M14K for land targets, and the anti-submarine 91R1. Future upgrades will add the 3M22 Zircon cruise hypersonic missiles. The capacity includes 32 Kalibr or 24 Oniκs missiles (some sources state 40 Kalibr and 32 Onik).

In Yasen 855 there are 8 Vertical Launch Systems and in the Yasen-M there are ten. Another missile options are the Kh-101 cruise missile. If the circumstances require it, some missiles can be stored in the torpedoes armory too. The submarine feature ten tubes for 533mm torpedoes, mines, and anti-submarine missiles like the RPK-7.

That's Why It's So Dangerous

If we compare it with other submarines, Graney wins most of the cases. They are huge and carry more missiles than most of the active submarines out there.

The submarines are versatile options and can operate silently in every sea. Last but not least, Yasen is the most powerful class of submarines that ever served the Soviet Union and Russia.
