US Senators submitted a resolution on conditions for a NATO nuclear attack on Russia

US senators have submitted to Congress a draft resolution on NATO's actions in case Russia uses nuclear weapons or blows up the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant.

Democratic Senators Richard Blumenthal and Republican Lindsey Graham have prepared a draft resolution stating that if Russia uses nuclear weapons in an attempt to stop a counter-offensive by Ukraine's armed forces, it would be considered an attack on NATO.

During his press conference on this occasion, Graham, among other things, said: "We believe that if nuclear weapons are used in Ukraine, large areas of territory in Europe, where our NATO allies are located, are threatened by radiation."

He also quoted statements by US President Joe Biden, who said there is a real threat of Russia using nuclear weapons.

Graham also added that the development of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus is also of concern and that Russia's threat to use nuclear weapons is the highest since the Caribbean crisis in 1962.

"Therefore," the senator said, "the best way to avoid this is to explain the consequences of such actions to the Russians."

In addition, Graham said sharply that NATO would be able to mount a "massive response if Russia did so."

Senator Blumenthal, for his part, added that "in addition to the use of nuclear weapons, there is also a risk of the explosion of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, and this could also have catastrophic consequences for Ukraine and its NATO neighbors.

In this case, NATO's response will also be extremely harsh."

He recalled that "Article 5 of the NATO Charter on collective defence which exists for a reason, to protect not only from specific military border attacks, but also from damage caused to our NATO allies, which inevitably leads us to fulfil our military obligations", he stressed.

In addition, responding to questions from reporters, Senator Graham said: "We are not trying to invade Russia, we are trying to force Russia to leave Ukraine without the use of American troops. So if we don't want to use our ground forces, we need to give Ukraine the resources to hit the Russians on Ukrainian territory as hard as possible.

ATACMS works better than HIMARS which was effective as a weapon system.

The tanks were effective. Therefore, we need F-16s so that Ukraine has the best conditions for this," he concluded.

A NATO-Russia global war would be both nuclear and physically destructive to a degree unknown to human history.

Russia has moved nuclear weapons to Belarus and the US is threatening to retaliate, which is certainly not a good thing as the climate between the two sides is at its worst point since 1962 and the Cuban Missile Crisis.
