The aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush set a course for the Syrian coast near the Russian base and Turkey

US Department of Defense (Pentagon) officials said the USS George H.W. Bush is expanding his mission, along with the accompanying battle group, setting a course for the coast of Syria.

From this point the US will control the Russian base in Tartus, Syria, Turkey, and also Iran.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) spokesman Colonel Joe Buccino said on the matter that they aim to strengthen their options to deal with a series of contingencies in the Middle East.

In this context, Buccino mentioned that the warships USS Leyte Gulf, USS Delbert D. Black and USNS Arctic were also included in the battle group of the modern US aircraft carrier.

In addition, Buccino added that a squadron of A-10 attack aircraft will be sent to the Middle East at an air base, but did not say in which country they will be deployed, but the most likely are Israel and Jordan.

The US official told Reuters news agency that he expected the US warships would remain under the responsibility of the European Command (EUCOM).

The USS George H.W. Bush recently took part in the major exercise Neptune Strike 2023-1, which involved 31 warships, 135 aircraft of all types and 8,386 military personnel from 21 countries, then docked in Souda.

It was announced that the USS George H.W. Bush is now moving towards Syria with his battle group.

The decision to deploy US warships to the Eastern Mediterranean was a result of last week's attacks on US bases in the Syrian cities of Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor.

The attacks, carried out by an unidentified drone, killed US personnel and wounded 12 US soldiers.

The US Pentagon announced that six of the injured soldiers had been diagnosed with brain trauma.

US President Joe Biden blamed Iran for the attacks and said "Iran will be met with a strong response to protect the US military".

Pentagon spokesman Brigadier General Patrick Ryder announced an air strike on facilities belonging to groups linked to Iran's Revolutionary Guards in Deir ez-Zor, killing eight militants.

Keyvan Khosravi, a spokesman for Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said the presence of US forces in Syria is illegal.

This region is in turmoil in view of the demonstrations in Israel, the pre-election period in Turkey, and Iranian dispositions in the wider region.
