Russia launched large-scale raids, mainly using missiles, on various sectors of Ukraine's territory during the heavy traffic this morning, hitting residential and industrial facilities and injuring several civilians, Ukrainian officials said.

An air raid alert was declared throughout Ukraine at around 06:00 (local and Greek time), with the Air Force announcing that cruise missiles and in some areas ballistic missiles were fired.

Neither the targets nor the full scope of the Russian attack is clear. There has been no comment from the Russian side at this stage.

Anatoly Kurtev, secretary of the municipal council in the city of Zaporizhzhya, said via Telegram that a missile attack had caused injuries to civilians, without giving a more specific account.

The regional governor in Zaporizhzhya, Yuri Malasko, spoke for his part of five explosions and at least two wounded in its namesake capital. "Rockets hit areas where there are residential houses," the regional governor said.

At least one woman was wounded in rocket strikes in Kharkiv (Kharkiv in Russian), the second largest Ukrainian city. Mayor Ihor Terekhov, who made the information public via Telegram, also said that industrial facilities were affected and a fire broke out.

Other Ukrainian cities, including Dnipropetrovsk and Khmelnitsky, reported "massive rocket attacks".

Two years after the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, the warring parties are escalating air strikes on each other's territories as their forces struggle to advance along the vast front line.
