The incident took place in a local government building in the village of Keretsky in Ukraine, as reported by the prestigious US defense website The War Zone. The village in question is located in the western part of the Zakharpatska (Transcarpathian) region, and the grenades are said to have been detonated at 11:30 a.m. local time.

The council meeting was about economic issues, local sources said, adding that of the total 26 injured, at least 6 are in critical condition. Although it was initially said that the man responsible for the attack was killed in the blasts, doctors reportedly tried to revive him.

A video of the attack was posted online by Ukrainian police. According to the footage, the man who detonated the grenades can be seen entering the council chamber through a door at the side of the room.

At the beginning of the video this man is seen to have his hands in his pockets as a tense discussion unfolds in the council.

A short time later he is seen pulling several grenades out of his pockets, of course without paying any attention to those present. "I can, I can," he is said to have said just before throwing them on the ground, right in the middle of the room.

The camera, which was apparently shaken by the explosions, captured the firing of the weapons, as well as the cries of anguish of those trying to leave the room. Smoke filled the room, while shrapnel was thrown everywhere. Several of the attendees appeared to be trying to take cover behind a table.

"At about 11:37 we received a message on the 102 line during a meeting in the village of Keretskivska in Mukachevo region, one of the leaders detonated grenades inside the building," Ukraine's national police said in an official statement, according to local media.

The aftermath of the attack was bloody, just like the floor of the building after the wounded were transferred.

Local media reported that the person responsible for the attack was a member of the village council, who had previously disagreed with the council president over budget issues for the year 2024.

Either way, the attack was considered a terrorist attack, according to the Kiev Interior Ministry.
