Erdogan's trap to Mitsotakis! Co-exploitation of natural gas in the EEZ of Cyprus without prior resolution of the Cyprus problem - The Aegean is next

Turkish President Erdoğan is about to land at Eleftherios Venizelos Airport, together with half of his Cabinet, as part of his short visit to Greece.

Erdogan's visit to Athens and the agreements to be signed

Erdogan's program includes a meeting with the President of the Republic, then with the Prime Minister for discussions in the context of the resumption of relations between the two countries , a joint press conference of the two leaders and finally a working lunch of the plenary session of the Supreme Cooperation Council, where the agreements to be signed are expected to be ratified.

These will concern areas in "low-policy" areas such as economic and trade cooperation, health, tourism, education, sport, research and technology, rural development and, above all, migration, which is a burning issue for the EU.

Apart from the above, Erdogan and Mitsotakis will get to the hard core of the Greek-Turkish problems, with our Prime Minister having made it clear that issues of our national sovereignty and sovereign rights are not under discussion in any of the cases, with the delimitation of the EEZ - continental shelf being for us the only dispute with the Turks to be resolved.

Greece's aim is to sign an agreement with Turkey to refer the issue to the International Court of Justice in The Hague (ICJ).

On the contrary, Erdogan wants to drag our country to the ICJ for all of Turkey's claims.

Erdogan's trap for co-development of natural gas in Cyprus' EEZ without prior resolution of the Cyprus problem

However, the "bombshell news" regarding the subject matter of the Mitsotakis-Erdoğan talks comes from Cyprus International Media , which reports that Erdogan will discuss energy cooperation with Cyprus in the talks he will have in Greece.

Specifically, it notes that President Nicos Christodoulides will hold talks with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Thursday, following the latter's meeting with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, government spokesman Konstantinos Letibiotis said on Wednesday.

Speaking at the press conference, he said Mitsotakis and Christodoulides are in constant communication and that the two will talk on Thursday after Mitsotakis' meeting with Erdogan.

Asked if the Cyprus issue will be among the topics Greece and Turkey will discuss, Letibiotis said: "Cyprus is always high on the agenda of the Greek government."

He added that any improvement in Greek-Turkish relations is not unrelated to the Cyprus issue, something that Mitsotakis himself had mentioned.

Erdogan's proposal for the joint exploitation of energy resources in the maritime area of Cyprus, without a prior solution of the Cyprus problem, is aimed at:

1.

2. Not to use International Law and the Law of the Sea in the resolution of the disputes with Cyprus, having as its sole criterion its own win and not the win-win, since economically it will benefit its country and the pseudo-state, while setting the basis for its international recognition.

3. Transfer of the above practice to the Aegean Sea for the co-exploitation of its energy resources, resulting in border ambiguity and its bifurcation.

4. Sidelining of International Law and the Law of the Sea in the resolution of disputes with Greece, with simultaneous marginalization of the US-EU.
