Netanyahu Opposes US-Turkey Plans in Southern Mediterranean-Supports East Med Starting with Cyprus

Israeli Prime Minister M. Netanyahu sent a very strong message to Turkey, and to Turkish President Erdogan's plans to "make amends" with Greece after the barrage of threats since 2020.

Netanyahu is promoting a natural gas pipeline to Cyprus, for starters, and he's boldly declaring it on social media.

"The project we have focused on is the supply of natural gas from Israel to Europe through a natural gas pipeline from our own natural gas fields to a natural gas liquefaction plant in Cyprus.

We created this alliance several years ago and it has significant implications, especially regarding Israel's position as a major energy power.

The project we focused on is the supply of Israeli natural gas to Europe through the pipeline from our natural gas field to a huge liquefaction facility in Cyprus", he emphasizes.

Israel is preparing to intensify efforts to implement the project to supply natural gas to Europe. This ambitious project involves supplying natural gas to Europe via Cyprus, allowing Israel to consolidate its position as an energy power.

The experts clarified that it is about the construction of the EastMed East Mediterranean natural gas pipeline.

The construction agreement was signed by Greece, Cyprus and Israel in January 2020. It is assumed that natural gas from the Israeli field "Leviathan" and the Cypriot field "Aphrodite" would pass through Cyprus and Crete, first to Greece and then to Italy.

However, the implementation of this project faced several obstacles. First, the change in the position of the United States, which, having begun to support the project, then abandoned it, citing environmental reasons.

Experts suggest that, in fact, the US did not want to provoke a conflict with Turkey, which does not benefit from the construction of a new natural gas pipeline.

Fire and fury in the Turkish press, with the recent military exercise AGAPINOR-23 in Cyprus.

"Israel, which has begun to settle in Cyprus in recent years, AND is expected to provide the Greeks with the Iron Dome air defense system in the near future.

The agreement between the two countries was signed last year. Although it is not known how many arrays will be fielded by Israel, when they will be delivered and where they will be placed in Cyprus, but the Jerusalem Post noted that the Iron Dome is the ideal air defense system that can be used against Turkish S/UAVs.

The Israeli Iron Dome with a range of 70 kilometers would "protect" the entire island," reports Turkish media.

According to Israeli Middle East analyst S. Frantzman in an earlier analysis, we now have the emergence of an alliance stretching from the Eastern Mediterranean to India, which is aimed at fighting the warring actors in the Middle East, who are mainly Turkey and Iran.

Turkey is preparing to impose the "Blue Homeland", by any means, alongside the illegal Turkish-Libyan memorandum, which has been "passed" by the Turkish parliament.

But everything is changing now in the Eastern Mediterranean. The interests of the USA at this moment coincide with those of Hellenism. But it needs special attention.

Israel, Greece and Cyprus are regional allies and cooperate in economic endeavors in the Mediterranean Sea, including electricity and natural gas, facing hostility from Turkey, which is trying to expand its presence in the Eastern Mediterranean.
