The possibility of Turkish migration flows to Greece - EU due to the earthquakes - How will our country deal with it

The enormous seismic activity that occurred in Turkey and the tragic consequences it had, depriving the lives and injuring thousands of Turkish citizens and causing incalculable material damage, resulted in the further effort of scientific interpretation of the phenomenon by many seismologists.

The purpose is to prevent a similar disaster in the future by finding and analyzing the reasons that caused it.

In an article entitled "This is how the disaster grew! We didn't expect 3 faults to activate each other", Turkish media attempts to provide answers to what caused the tragedy and what should be done from now on:

Prof. Candan Gökçeoğlu said that the disaster escalated as the faults triggered each other. Pointing out that the Pazarcık Fault was expected to rupture, Gökçeoğlu said: "We expected an earthquake of more than 7.3 magnitude. But we did not expect that the Pazarcık would break the Amanos with it and that after 9 hours the Sürgü fault would break and the 3 would activate each other.

The Geological Engineering Lecturer of the Hacettepe University School of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Candan Gökçeoğlu, stated that the most damage occurred in Kahramanmaraş Pazarcık, Gaziantep Nurdağı, İslahiye, Hatay Hassa, Kırıkhan, İskenderun and Antakya.

Gökçeoğlu said, "The majority of the damage here is due to the ground and poor construction. That is, the liquefaction, the lateral spread, is caused by the fact that the building is not designed according to the ground.

In Hatay Hassa, Gaziantep's İslahiye and Nurdağı, neighborhoods are built on the fault, causing well-built, poorly-built building, tall, low, single-story, all to fall apart. We need a rift law. We must prevent construction on the rift.

Stating that every time an earthquake occurs, scientists are asked whether or not another earthquake is expected, Gökçeoğlu said, "Did we expect that it would go and break the Sürgü Fault after an hour? I never expected that. Whoever says that will say lies. We didn't expect 3 faults to trigger each other. I've worked hard in this field for 40 years. We never thought of anything like this. It's extremely unusual and serious," he said.

Do not enter the houses for a month

ESKİŞEHİR, the Lecturer of the Geological Engineering Department of Osmangazi University, Prof. Dr. Volkan Karabacak, said:

"The aftershocks of this earthquake will be as big as the earthquake itself. Since the aftershock of the 7.7 magnitude earthquake is a magnitude smaller than it, that is, it can reach up to 6.5, which can be dangerous when they weaken the houses .

We are currently not entering homes for at least a month. “There are benefits. During the checks it will be determined which is damaged or slightly damaged. While this is happening, it is beneficial for people to stay away from their homes." . AFAD teams will tell them when necessary."

The area of the 10 earthquake-affected Turkish provinces has a population of approximately 13.5 million, a fact that in connection with the huge disasters, the dangerous post-seismic sequence and the above recommendations of the Turkish seismologists, a small part of those who will not be expected to enter their homes be judged habitable, earlier than one month.

It seems  from the above that millions of earthquake-stricken Turkish citizens will be forced to literally stay in tents, hotels, student dormitories and their relatives in the rest of Turkey, while many will be those who will be lost, creating new refugee flows to the EU, while our assessment is that apart from the earthquake victims, illegal immigrants living in Turkey from other countries may take advantage of the occasion to attempt an illegal invasion of our country

The attitude of Greece

Greece should prepare accordingly in order to avoid phenomena of refugee flows like those of 2020, in the Evros, but also in its islands in the Aegean.

Greece should continue guarding its borders from migration flows as it did before the earthquakes in Turkey, but at the same time our country should take the lead within the EU to create a framework for hosting Turkish citizens affected by the earthquake in its member states. in organized accommodation structures, in numbers proportional to the population of each state, until the Turkish state can recover and with financial aid received from other countries and resources of its economy, restore their homes, in order for them to return safely and safely back to their homeland Turkey.

The choice of those who will come to the European countries from the earthquake victims, it is understood that it should be done in direct consultation with the Turkish authorities.

In this way, Turkish citizens will realize that Greece and the EU are practically standing by their side even after the earthquakes and that the European perspective and integration of their country into the European family can only bring them benefits.

A European Turkey is to the benefit of Greece, Cyprus, the EU and the USA and will result in the smoothing of Greek-Turkish differences and problems, and their resolution, as well as the Cyprus issue with the parallel accession of Cyprus to NATO, through a dialogue between allied states in NATO and members of the EU, within the framework of International Law.
