Christodoulidis-Macron meeting brought good news about Exocet Block 3 missiles-Paris wants control of the sea lanes in the Mediterranean because of Turkey

Tomorrow the presidents of Cyprus and France, Mr. Christodoulidis and Mr. Macron will meet with a heavy agenda that includes many serious issues for the island and the control of the Mediterranean by the Turkish factor.

Cypriot sources in the SIMERINI newspaper, and the journalist Giannos Charalambidis, specifically refer to "the issue of the receipt of the French Exocet Block 3 missiles (with a range of 180 kilometers) within 2023, with which the National Guard will target the Turkish warships that will attempt to violate its EEZ".

The other issue concerns the construction of a Naval Base in Marie, so that warships of allied countries, such as those of France or even those of Greece, Israel and Egypt, can be docked.

The Turks are on the alert for this issue, since Cyprus, in cooperation with France, is creating a large naval base to counterbalance the Turkish base in Famagusta.

This base would increase the deterrence of Cyprus and hinder Turkey's plans for maritime dominance and consolidation of the illegal "Blue Homeland".

Cyprus is the largest unsinkable "aircraft carrier" in the Eastern Mediterranean and in combination with the "Andreas Papandreou" Air Base, acquires enormous geopolitical importance.

Relations between Cyprus and France are much closer now.

Cyprus already allows French fighter jets to use its military air base on the island's south-east side, while accepting French warships in its ports.

France also wants to make its presence felt to send messages to Turkey not to think of interfering with the offshore drilling by the French energy company Total and its Italian partner Eni, which will be carried out in the waters of the SE Mediterranean, one of the Cypriot EEZ .

Most important is the fact that the French wish to lead the effort to control the sea passages to Suez, as Ankara prepares on the side of the Occupied, the creation of a mega-base, on land and sea, with the presence of a permanent flotilla, of unmanned aerial vehicles and F-16 fighter jets, aimed of course at the Mediterranean.

Greece must not remain uninvolved in these plans

Our country, as a guarantor power, has contractual obligations towards the Republic of Cyprus. Athens must emphasize in all tones to Turkey that the situation in Cyprus and the threats against the island seriously affect Greek-Turkish relations.

Cyprus does not only affect Nicosia but also the Greek defense, since the island's security is part of the Greek military security plan.

The transformation of the Occupied into a huge Turkish aeronautical base affects the Aegean and affects all our country's plans for mining south of Crete.

The most serious, however, is the inauguration of the base of drones equipped with missiles based at the occupied old airport of Lefkonikos.

According to reliable information, Ankara aims to create a large naval and air base on the island, to connect it with the base in Alexandretta and Libya, with the main aim of controlling the Eastern Mediterranean and preventing the construction of the East Med pipeline .

The Turkish drones, the planned naval base in Famagusta, and the dispatch of surface and submarine units from Ankara, are aimed at another, even more formidable plan, to control the area to and from Suez.

Erdogan and his Minister of Energy have warned us that after the elections we will have investigations in the Eastern Mediterranean, which Nicosia and Athens will not accept, it is possible that we will have an escalation of the situation and a slide into a scenario of an aeronautical blockade of Cyprus, which, it should be noted, does not belong to NATO.
