They are afraid of the Turks going to the islands - In Piraeus a US ship unloaded 393 M-1117 for the Greek Army

The US continues to provide defence assistance to Greece. The expected second batch of 393 M-1117 armored vehicles arrived at the port of Piraeus.

The 393 M-1117 armored vehicles will be painted in the colors of the Greek army and then sent to the units where they will serve, a minority newspaper reported, with anxiety as to whether they will go to our islands.

The cargo ship that arrived at the port of Piraeus the other night and disembarked the M-1117 armoured security vehicles.

Work to unload the vehicles from the ship started immediately without any time being wasted.

We have to equip these vehicles with our own hands

We want and can take advantage of the Greek defence industry to improve our M-1117 and any other weapon system for possible military operations day or night

The GMG 40 mm machine gun combining the advantages of machine guns (high velocity) with the advantages of artillery (fragmentation) is a support weapon with unique firepower, designed for static or mobile deployment.

This will essentially reinforce all the vehicles we have or will send in the future to the East Aegean islands under the weight of provocative Turkish threats.

Turkey is not only threatening our country, but has been training the 4th Aegean Army forces for landing operations in every exercise for a long time.

It is mainly for this reason that we ought to further reinforce these vehicles (M-1117) that will man the units of the Supreme Military Command of the Interior and Islands to enable our soldiers to effectively counter a possible Turkish offensive action whether it is day or night.

The American vehicle, about which so much has been written or heard by experts and non-specialists alike, is the best in all respects for the Greek infantry, and with the appropriate "modifications" it will become even better, effectively countering any Turkish beachhead (especially with its speed) that the Turks will want to create in a possible Greek-Turkish conflict.

Which is the M-1117

The M1117 Guardian, also referred to as the Armored Security Vehicle (ASV), is an internal security vehicle based on the V-100 and V-150 Commando series of armored vehicles.

It was developed in the late 1990s for service with the US Military Police Corps.
The M1117 Guardian armored security vehicles are part of 172 defense programs approved by the Greek government and made possible through agreements with the US.

The M1117 was one of the first US military vehicles to be built in a specialised mine-resistant hull, and after 2001 it was adopted in increasing numbers as a direct response to the  threat to US forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Its armament consists of a Mk19 grenade launcher and a Browning M2HB heavy machine gun mounted on a turret similar to that used on the USM's amphibious assault vehicle, and a M240H medium machine gun mounted outside the gunner's hatch.

The vehicle was used by US military police and escort security units in Iraq and Afghanistan.
