Mitsotakis' "blindness" about the Greek-Turkish friendship - Erdogan's comeback with "Blue Homeland" and a major naval exercise in the Aegean Sea

The Greek language is characterized by its richness, having for each concept the appropriate word to define it precisely.

The word ethelotyphlia is used when we want to convey the attitude of someone who prefers not to see and not to acknowledge something that is obviously negative, harmful.

This is exactly the case with our Prime Minister who, according to a Turkish media report, "praises the progress in the normalization of our country's relations with Turkey", while at the same time Turkish President Erdogan, in his speech on the 97th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Intelligence Services (MIT), "returns" vigorously to the defence of the "Blue Homeland".

Prime Minister optimistic about the course of Greek-Turkish relations

The Turkish media notes that "as both countries fully explore ways to normalize relations, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis says that the current progress with Turkey remains significant.

In an interview with public broadcaster ERT on Wednesday, Mitsotakis noted that normalization is reflected in concrete developments such as the visa facilitation program announced during President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to Athens in December, the fight against illegal migration and negotiations to improve bilateral economic and trade relations.

Recalling that he and Erdogan met three times last year, Mitsotakis noted that he is much more optimistic about the prospects for Greek-Turkish relations.

He noted that there are numerous differences between the two countries, which Athens intends to take a positive approach to resolve.

He added, however, that Greece and Turkey should be able to learn to co-exist in a region that is being tested by various challenges, even if their differences remain unresolved.

Confirming that relations with the US have been elevated to a very high level, as confirmed by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, whom he met last Saturday, Mitsotakis said this is bringing economic, military and diplomatic benefits to the country.

More specifically, on the country's long-awaited request for F-35 fighter jets from Washington, he said: "The Greek government has submitted a documented request for the acquisition of F-35 fighters and I believe that this request is mature and will be approved by the US authorities. relatively soon, in my opinion."

Brakes and backtracking by Erdogan on the "Blue Homeland"

The Turkish President, for his part, in a speech at the Turkish Information Service (MIT), "made sure" to remind us of his real objectives in the Aegean and the South-Eastern Mediterranean, making extensive reference to the ideology of the "Blue Homeland" and its defense, which violates the sovereign rights of Greece and Cyprus.

Among other things, in his long speech Erdogan pointed out:

"I am glad to be with the honorable members of our National Intelligence Organization. Four years ago, we gathered with you on the occasion of the inauguration of our campus in Kale.

I wish that our Kale campus, which not only demonstrates the expanding vision of our organization, but adds strength to us , be auspicious and prosperous once again.

Turkey is consolidating its position as a leading player on the global chessboard day by day.

We are defending the interests of our people with courage both in diplomacy and in the military field, taking the right steps at the right time.

Our military operations in northern Syria are a clear example of this. Our ongoing Operation Claw in Northern Iraq is another example. The liberation of Karabakh with our brothers in Azerbaijan after nearly 30 years of occupation is one of them.

Our support for the legitimate government of Libya, where we have ancient ties, is one of them.

Our strong determination to protect our "Blue Homeland" from the Aegean to the Black Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean is one of them. It is possible to increase the number of these examples.

The coordination and cooperation of our security institutions have allowed our nation to experience these historic successes. I congratulate all our institutions through you.

Our initiatives in the defense industry, symbolized by UAVs and UCAVs, are closely watched with admiration worldwide. The defence industry, which in the past was 80% dependent on foreign countries, has now become the highest value-added export item in our country.

In 2023, we broke the record in the history of the Republic by realizing defense exports of $5.5 billion.

Our unmanned aerial combat vehicle ANKA-3 has successfully completed its first flight.

Tests of the KIZILELMA are continuing which will have a multiplier effect in this field.

Our organization has exposed Israel's spy network in our country, giving a clear answer to those who threaten us."

The Turkish Deniz Kurdu-1/2024 aerial exercise is underway.

At the same time, the major Turkish Deniz Kurdu-1/2024 aeronautical exercise is underway in the Aegean-NE Mediterranean-Black Sea, with the participation of 110 surface ships, 7 submarines, 34 aircraft, 22 helicopters, 22 drones and about 17,000 Turkish Armed Forces (TDF) personnel.

The above exercise is a tangible proof of Erdogan's words to MIT , that Turkey remains firmly committed to its objectives in the Aegean and SE Mediterranean, to serving its "Blue Homeland" ideology and its claims against us.

The Greek-Turkish rapprochement is nothing more than a "stepping stone" for Erdogan in order to overcome the objections of the US Congress to the sale of the F-16 BLOCK-70 to Turkey.

As for the US, they are "gold-plating" us by selling us F-35 fighters in order to maintain air superiority over our "friendly neighbours".
