Union of Greek Shipyards was founded - Things are changing

The industrial sector of the Greek shipyards until today had virtually no representation. This, as everything shows, is becoming a reality, as it was ratified with the no. 41/2023 Decision of the Piraeus Magistrate's Court on the legal status of the Hellenic Shipyard Union , based in Piraeus.

In the near future, elections will be held for the election of the Board of Directors. of, with the chairman and managing director of the ONEX group, Mr. Panos Xenokostas, proposed for the position of President, who, in the past, has also highlighted the dynamics that the Union will give to the cluster, which is being formed for the development of business activities and the support of shipyards by companies with extensive experience in the production of materials related to shipbuilding or ship maintenance, in the commercial, defense, energy and general industrial sectors.

 

The President and Managing Director of ONEX Shipyards (Neorio Syros and Elefsina Shipyards), Mr. Panos Xenokostas, said in this regard: "The rebirth of the Greek shipyards is a creative movement of all those who envision with us the substantial restoration of a historical industrial sector of the Greek economy, at the center of which is merchant shipping, the navy and other critical sectors for the domestic economy, with workers as protagonists. Today, an Association was born with a unique Vision and Goal of development around the "blue economy" and the shipyards of Greece. We will work hard, both at the National and European level, to modernize the legislative framework that governs the sector and strengthen the competitive advantages of our country. We will work at the international level, and in close cooperation with the USA, to ensure self-sufficiency, security of supply and energy transition, both for Greece, as well as for Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean".

The goal of the new organization is to pursue an outward-looking policy, in collaboration with Enterprise Greece, to promote the country's shipbuilding sector, with the participation of all the thousands of Enterprises through the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, that have joined the Union , not excluding the Super Fund, at International Exhibitions, forums, etc.

At the same time, as part of an outward-looking policy, he will submit a series of proposals aimed at eliminating legislative distortions that have acted in the past as an obstacle to the development of shipbuilding - shipbuilding repair activities, but also for the development of exports of all kinds of materials intended for ships, which and are manufactured by Greek companies. The offices of Hellenic Shipyard Union will be hosted in the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry building in Piraeus while, at the same time, the presence of the Hellenic Shipyard Union in Brussels.
